If you look at the logos on the helmets or the names in the position it can be difficult to describe what we have in college football this season as “parity,” but with another changing of the guard at No. 1 there is more uncertainty. more than usual about the best teams in sports.

As we prepare to enter Week 9, the latest CBS Sports 134 update — our complete ranking of every FBS team as voted on by CBS Sports and 247Sports experts — shows no just another change to no. 1 but a new group is taking that place. a high place. With Texas’ loss to Georgia on Saturday night in Austin comes a shakeup for the top five, with Oregon taking the No. 1 spot. 1 for the first time this year.

Our voters answered eight weeks of college football and in doing so collectively changed the No. 1 team four times. And while no one should be surprised by the likes of Georgia, Texas, Alabama or Oregon vying for these top spots, the fact that they all made such a strong impression early in the year bodes well for the title race. that will be in our future. When you add Ohio State, Penn State, Miami and others — all teams that have been close to the top for just a few weeks — in the No. 1 spot. 1 – and what we have is a strong group of sports competitors. awards in 2024. Again, it is not equity as much as fraud, as we know that the prices are high and the field is big in this new playoff season.

These conditions differ slightly from the sports betting market. The Bulldogs are the +350 favorite to win the CFP title at BetMGM Sportsbook. Ohio State is +450 followed by Oregon at +500 to win the CFP at BetMGM.

In terms of this week’s rankings beyond the top spot, the Big Ten shines and not just Oregon with No. 1 but Ohio State and Penn State join the Ducks in the top three. Georgia and Indiana also moved up into the top 10 after big Week 8 wins, and BYU moved into the top 10 after the late-game heroes pushed the Cougars over Oklahoma State Friday night in Provo, Utah.

The biggest change in the top 25 was Alabama’s 10-spot drop from No. 7 to No. 17 after losing to Tennessee, but it was far from the biggest or most notable changes in the 60. The biggest travelers

  • No. 35 Cincinnati (+19): The Bearcats haven’t won enough finals to make a case for the top 25, but keep your eye on this team in the coming weeks. Cincinnati is 5-2 on the year and the only losses were to Pitt by one point and to Texas Tech by three points. Next up is a good test for the newly acquired top 40 team, as they face Colorado on Saturday night in Boulder.
  • No. 34 Wisconsin (+12): After losing quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to a season-ending injury and hitting early at USC, things looked bleak for the Badgers. But Wisconsin has strung together three straight wins in conference play by 46, 35 and 20 points and in Week 9 they have a great chance to throw their hat in the ring for Big Ten title contention if they take down Penn Madison State.
  • No. 38 South Carolina (+12): Things can get pretty fluid between No. 30 and no. 60 and South Carolina has been up and down in this ranking for most of the season. The Gamecocks have been rewarded for their quality and competitiveness even in losses to LSU and Alabama, but it takes a win as big as going on the road in Norman and winning handily to create a real surge in the standings.
  • Number. 32 Colorado (+10): Twice this year Colorado entered the conference game as an underdog and brought home the hammer with a statement win. First it was a 48-21 victory over UCF and on Saturday it was a 34-7 trouncing of Arizona that keeps the Buffs well within the race for the Big 12 title.
  • No. 42 Texas Tech (-13): A four-game winning streak was snapped over the weekend by Baylor, and now a Red Raiders team that had just climbed seven points is back down outside the top 40. With an overall record of 5-2 of the conference 3-1 majority. of Texas Tech goals are still in play, but getting outshot 59-35 by the Bears (at home, no less) will require a change in circumstances.
  • No. 51 Oklahoma (-15): The Sooners have begun the process of solving their biggest problems with Sunday’s firing of offensive coordinator Seth Littrell. Now comes the news of trying to get this team to the postseason as South Carolina’s loss puts Oklahoma at 4-3 on the year with four top 25 teams remaining on the schedule.
  • No. 55 Utah (-17): A home loss to TCU really put the nail in the coffin for Utah’s Big 12 title and College Football Playoff hopes. The Utes are not only 1-3 in conference play but have looked ineffective offensively (making Sunday’s resignation of offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig) unlikely even with strong performances by The best of the defense can cause a miracle in the later part of the season.
  • No. 43 Michigan (-17): At the risk of summarizing the news too much, it meant that Illinois didn’t take much action after its big win against Michigan on Saturday to improve to 6-1. That’s because our voters clearly thought the outcome had a lot to do with the Wolverines, who made one of the biggest upsets of any team in the top 50.
